My product review for the NISI JetMag Pro Magnetic Filter System, its best uses & benefits it offers to my photography. Why I switched from KASE to NISI.
NISI JetMag Pro Magnetic Filter System Review: A Game-Changer for my photography.
If you’re a photographer, like me, who frequently works with filters, the NISI JetMag Pro Magnetic Filter System might be the upgrade you’ve been waiting for. Known for its innovative design, exceptional optical quality, and ease of use, this system simplifies filter use in the field while delivering professional results.
Key Features and Build Quality
The NISI JetMag Pro Magnetic Filter System, is built around a magnetic attachment mechanism, allowing us to effortlessly attach, stack, and remove filters without the hassle of traditional threaded systems.
The filters are made from high-quality optical glass with multi-coating to reduce reflections, improve colour accuracy, and protect against water, oil, and dust.
The system typically includes:
- Magnetic adapter ring: Screws onto your lens and serves as the base for the filters.
- Magnetic filters: Such as ND filters (2,3,4,6,8,&10 stops), polarizers (CPL). The kits come standard with and CPL, ND6 (3 stops), ND8 (6 stops), and ND1000 (10 stops).
- Protective carrying case: To keep your filters organized and safe.
The filters are slim and lightweight, making them perfect for travel and they don’t take up much space in your bag.
One of the main features it has over other filter systems is that it has a lock mechanism built into the adapter rings, and this system flows over into each separate filter yoo. I have however noticed one flaw with this.
THE FLAW: The lock system is too small of an area on the ring, so when you use your CPL and turn it, it will fall outside of the lock system and you now only rely on the magnets.
The way I use The NISI JetMag Pro Magnetic Filter System
- Landscape & Macro Photography:
- The magnetic ND filters are perfect for long exposures, helping to smooth out water surfaces, capture cloud movement, and create dreamy landscapes.
- The circular polarizer enhances contrast, reduces glare from water and glass, and boosts colour saturation in skies and foliage.
- Nightscape Photography:
- The night filter provide precise light control, and reduces light pollution from nearby city lights.
- Wildlife Photography:
- The polarizer can also help in your wildlife photography.
- The 100mm – 150mm Magnetic Filter Holder:
- One of the reason o moved form KASE to NISI, is that NISI offers a holder to use 100mm – 150mm square filters, this is very useful when I want use graduated ND filters. The holder adapts to the circular filter system.
Benefits for your photography
- Speed and Convenience: The magnetic system allows for near-instant filter changes, saving time when lighting conditions shift.
- Exceptional Image Quality: The multi-coated optical glass ensures sharpness, accurate colour rendition, and minimal vignetting.
- Durability: Scratch-resistant, water-repellent coatings protect your filters in challenging environments.
- Stackability: You can stack multiple filters without degrading image quality, providing creative flexibility.
Potential Considerations
While the system is nearly flawless, it’s worth noting:
- Cost: The premium quality comes with a higher price tag compared to traditional filter systems.
- Compatibility: Ensure you get the correct adapter size for each lens you own.
I would highly recommend to always by at least one filer size up from your lens. So if the lenses you own has 77mm filter thread as the largest lens, buy at least a filter kit of 82mm or even 95mm.
Final Thoughts
The NISI JetMag Pro Magnetic Filter System is an excellent investment if you take your photography serious. Its blend of convenience, optical excellence, and durability transforms the way you work with filters, letting you focus on creativity rather than fumbling with gear.
Whether you’re shooting landscapes, travel scenes, or videos, this system ensures you get the perfect shot, every time.
⭐ Rating: ★★★★★ – Highly recommended for photographers seeking efficiency and top-tier results.
